The first day of the new month sees us going straight in to action in the Heavyweight division thanks to a show in Lagos, Nigeria which features Nigerian Olympian Onoriode Ehwarieme (9-0, 8).
Ehwarieme, who competed in the 2008 Beijing games, will be looking for his 9th straight stoppage as he takes on the debuting Oseni Lekan (0-0). Gotta state the obvious here but we favoure Ehwariemeby stoppage.
There's not much Heavyweight action today. Though with just 2 bouts taking place in Nigeria we need to at least have a little peak at them.
The more interesting of the two bouts sees the unbeaten Cruiserweight-come-Heavyweight Onoriode Ehwarieme (9-0, 8) taking on Adewale Abbey (19-8, 19.
Whilst Abbey looks, on paper to be competitive with his extra experience it's worth noting that Ehwarieme was a 2008 Olympian and is the significantly younger man in this one. In fact Ehwarieme's debut in 2010 came at the same point as Abbey's career was winding down (he has only fought once since 2010).
We won't say Ehwarieme is going to be the next breakout Heavyweight though we do think he can make his mark on the international boxing scene (albeit at Cruiserweight).
The other bout sees Afinni Abiodun (1-0, 1) taking on the debuting Ben Ifemesia (0-0). We've got to admit we know next to nothing about these two. In fact all that we do know is that Abiodun made his debut last month in Ghana (winning a via a 3rd round KO over Hassan Murray).
